Running 160k in 30 days for Alzheimer’s Society

In May 2024, I decided it was time to challenge myself. As a novice runner, I thought participating in a running event would be the perfect way to push my limits. Not long before this, I saw a running challenge called “Run for Dementia” which was organised by Alzheimer’s Society, the challenge I was signing up for was to run 160k in 30 days. As this charity was very close to my heart, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to participate and make a difference. When I told my family and friends about my plan to take part in Run for Dementia, they were extremely supportive of me. I signed myself up as a participant, made by fundraising page and began to collect donations for this amazing charity. To my disbelief, I hit my donation target within the first day of my page being live! The support I received before I even began the challenge was overwhelming and motivated me even more.   At first, the distance didn’t seem too overwhelming, with 30 days to complete the challenge...

My first 10k race!

Completing your first 10k race is a milestone worth celebrating, whether you’re a complete running novice or a professional runner. 10k is a test of mental strength, perseverance and dedication. This blog covers my experience of my first 10k road race to show it’s not as scary or as serious as it may seem. From initially signing up to crossing the finish line, I’ll take you through my unforgettable experience.  As someone who had only been running for a couple of months, everyone thought it was an absurd idea to sign up for a 10k race. For me, it was about setting a goal and showing myself that I could achieve it, as I previously stated, running is partly a mental challenge. The idea of covering 10 kilometres seemed intimidating, although I knew that if I just secured my spot in the race, I would have no choice but to train my hardest until race day arrived. I signed myself up and the countdown was on! I will admit having an athletic family definitely pushed me towards this persona...

The Beginning of my Love for Running

Image
In this blog post I’m going to talk about how my love for running came about, as I definitely haven’t always been a runner. When planning to travel to Manchester for a city break with my friend Abby, I noticed that Gymshark were holding a run club event in Manchester, on the day after we arrived, perfect! The event was held by Anna Archer, and for those of you who don’t know her, she is a content creator who has gained popularity for her unique personality and engaging content and at the time of the event she was also a Gymshark athlete! The event was called Anna on the Run, Abby and I eagerly bought tickets and awaited the day. Neither of us were runners and neither of us had ran a 5k in our lives but the opportunity seemed like too much fun to pass down.     After a late flight on Friday night and only a couple hours of sleep, our alarms went off at 6:30am on Saturday morning. Even though we were both exhausted, we got dressed and headed to meet Anna and the other run...
